Bruges, Belgium - August 20, 2006

Brugge: Part 2.

The twin names of this city actually come in handy for this blog post, since I wanted to split the same day over two entries but keep the title and date (August 20, 2006) the same. Thus, the first entry is Brugge and this is Bruges.

As you can see from the photos from Part 1, Brugge doesn't require castles, palaces or monuments to standout from the rest. The very streets and canals of the original historic town centre are more than enough. Having survived mostly intact the two world wars, Bruges remains one of the only fair-sized medieval cities to exist so exquisitely today.

The afternoon started off with a rain-shower (you'll see the tourists huddled under archways, etc.) and then cleared up for a few beautiful pictures with lots of sun before returning to an overcast sky. The different weather conditions made for great photos, some which are dark and moody and others which enhance the wonderful colours of the brick buildings and gardens.

And now, without further ado: Part 2 of Brugge / Bruges.
